The story of skye....

Once upon a time during an orange moon in 1988 a gorgeous little girl was born... she was named Skye... over time she grew up to be a bigger little girl... aka, Skye Sweetnam!

She was a young girl with big dreams living in a small town in southern Ontario, proudly called, Bolton. Many would say she was a little attention getter filled to the brim with energy and spirit,
a loud voice and a will to capture the moment. So, when the day came she was asked to sing on the spot in a hair salon, she pereformed as if she was playing to a million people. Little did she know that she had just performedone of the most important concerts of her life.

It was that day, the little pink demo she made at twelve years of age, was passed on through a chain of connections in the biz. The lady in the hair salon passed it to her brother - a lawyer.  He passed it to the manager of a young producer (James Robertson) who liked what he heard, so she wrote her first record with him. She played hooky to record in his paren'ts basement over the next year and crafted her debut album, Noise From The Basement!! (I love that album, watch this space for the list of songs, their lyrics, where to buy them and the videos!)

It was during the recording of Noise From The Basement that she also disvcovered a love for stop animation films and made her first one for the song 'Imaginary Superstar' using a shelf in her bedroom as the stage. It made such an impact that she was whisked away to Hollywood to get and infamous record deal! (By the way, all her friends totally flipped out!).

She immediatedly started touring everywhere on the planet. She went from summer camps, to 21 clubs, to arenas with Britney Spears when she was sixteen. She conquered Japan like Godzilla and she even lived out her life long dram as the singing voice for Barbie in Mattel's DVD The Barbie Diaries.

Eventually, it was time for album number two, and she was more ready then ever to get back in  the studio. She found herself in various basements in Canada... playing punk rock with her band, to jamming in James Robertson's pad, but in the end... she couldn't resist the wild howls of adorn ya, scorn ya, California.

She was hesitant to join the LA writing machine, so she proceeded with caution. Through one way or another she ended up in the basement of Rancid's Tim Armstrong writing upbeat summer anthems that really hit home. First there was 'Ghosts', a song about coming to a big city and not loosing yourself in it. Tim and Skye continued to write more tracks, and on in particular, '(Let's Get Movin') Into Action' was re-recorded for Tim's solo record. It made its way to the number 1 most requested son on KBROQ in LA and she had a feature role in the music video with Tim and the Aggrolites (Hellcat) which blew up on YouTube.

Then she got the call from her record label saying that the most in demand, production/writing team in the industry was open to writing with her - THE MATRIX!

It's no secret that these guys are hit makers, and she was worried that she might come out sounding like on of the many pop/rock dolls that she had been compared to in interviews for the last three years. Not to mention, it was intimidating going from the basement to one of Hollywood's finest studios. Luckily The Matrix, (L. Christy, G. Edwards, S. Spock) were looking to expand their horizons too. Needless to say she ended up scratching out her 'anti-Matrix' stamp on one of her guitars.

First up was the heavy hitter 'Music Is My Boyfriend' which really nailed the direction she was heading in and how she wanted her record to sound. Once she knew what these guys were capable of, the ideas flowed out of her like a rapid river. 'Human', the rhythmic pop tune about separating yourself from the world became a hidden hit. 'Cartoon,' Make-Out Song', and 'Babydoll Gone Wrong', are all songs that you don't even have to hear to know how individual and Skye they really are !! All of these songs will be on the website soon so WATCH THIS SPACE !!

So now you know who she really is go explore her amazing world :P
